Designing the sound of Trevor Horn
Ask anyone to name a British pop producer and it's a good bet that this man's name will be top of the list. Trevor Horn has produced (and played instruments on) some of the big singles and albums of the last 30 years, collaborating with names like Seal, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Grace Jones, ABC, Pet Shop Boys, Lisa Stansfield and Robbie Williams.
In 2004 his label, ZTT Records, asked us to brand Produced by Trevor Horn, a thirteen act Wembley concert in aid of The Prince's Trust, celebrating a twenty-five year career in the industry. We spoke to his manager on the Tuesday lunchtime and presented design concepts on the Thursday morning. Luckily for us we knew the man's history well – much of his work sits on the music shelf at Gibson.
We designed a visual identity, a double CD album, concert programme, flyers, posters, press and magazine advertising and all the show merchandising. Right down to the ubiquitous mug.
How did the show go? Let's just say we were hoarse as Frankie left the stage, some three hours after the show had opened with a note perfect rendition of Video Killed the Radio Star supported by a full orchestra.
