Marketing the Masterclass
The Masterclass charity, founded and hosted by the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London, has been around for over ten years. Back in the late 1990s, the theatre's chairman, Arnold Crook, suggested that the old building should be opened up – rather than laying silent and empty for much of the time – and so Masterclass was born.
The London charity brings in some of the UK's greatest actors, writers, directors and producers to speak with young people seeking a career in the industry.
The workshops, talks and panel discussions hosted by Masterclass bridge the gap between regular education and the professional world. Over 200 masters have given their time, including: Alan Ayckbourn, Steven Berkoff, Simon Callow, Thelma Holt, David Hare, Maureen Lipman, Ewan McGregor, Patrick Stewart and Victoria Wood.
With some help from trustee and copywriter Bruce Fielding, Gibson developed bold and dramatic (literally) branding for the charity, a tenth anniversary booklet and a bookings website that would allow it to flourish and reach thousands of young people. We also coined the Masterclass slogan along the way – 'Education by inspiration'.
